She's trying to hook him via a glass of wine. "In vino, veritas..."
She is throwing him a life line. Though it is quite dangerous, it is all she has to offer. The fish is the mother figure who is looking on, and you seek her approval. The wine is a wall (metaphorically speaking, of course) so he does not see her for who she is...at least not yet.
